China Re-Starts Film Production

China is becoming like what California was 20 years ago. If it happened in California, then the expectation was that the rest of the country would adopt it a year later.

Now, China, for better or worse seems to be leading the way, currently with the re-start of film production.

IndieWire notes that all production meetings still happen online, crew size on major #movies are limited to 100 and there are mandatory twice daily temperature checks and COVID-19 testing for all actors and crew members, each of whom must provide a government-issued letter atttesting to 14 days of quarantine.

Government backed studios are still in business, but the small to medium size production companies are either struggling or have gone bust.

The Chinese government got more involved in the film industry after the Fan BingBing tax evasion scandal and has continued its close oversight to date. After a corona virus rebound, movie theaters were re-shuttered with no opening date set yet.

So, it’s still a mixed bag there as well.
