Crowdfunding real estate projects that make a small change to make lives better is what Small Change is all about.
The crowdfunding platform uses its Small Change Index (below) that rates real estate crowdfunding project on such data points as “an area’s walk – and bike-ability, public transit access, proximity to green space, availability of commercial and cultural amenities and other measures of quality of life to gauge the possibilities of a project.”
If a project doesn’t score at least 60% on the Index, the platform won’t list it. This is not to say that the houses built are for low income residents. In fact, some claim that the site encourages gentrification of falling neighborhoods.
Campaigns are Regulation CF crowdfunded offerings.
An example is the Starter Home campaign by architect Jonathan Tate of New Orleans who raised $95,000 to build two very different looking “shotgun” homes in the transitioning Milan District.
