Crowdfunding Lobbyists For The People

If you watched the Democrat Party’s debate last night, there were a lot of complaints about corporate lobbyists.

Now, a startup is using crowdfunding to get ordinary citizens a seat at the table where the sausage (ie, laws) are being made.

CrowdLobby is asking folks to donate to hire their own lobbyist to work in state houses to push for legislative reforms that are not being advocated by big corporations.

The company wants to “start small,” and is organizing its first campaigns in Virginia, to push for decriminalizing marijuana and for equal funding for students.

The startup is taking a 25% fee but that includes hiring the lobbyist and full time working with her to influence the appropriate legislators.

There’s no guarantee of success, only of effort.
