Spiro Agnew Crowdfunds Legal Defense

Rachel Maddow shows that it’s happened before.


Even crowdfunding for politicians under Justice Department investigation.

In the Fall of 1973, W. Clement Stone set up the Spiro Agnew Legal Defense Fund. He organized a nationwide phone bank and was dialing for dollars. The haul the first week was $300.

They then turned to friendly celebrities, including Frank Sinatra.

Franky’s buddies said “Look, we don’t give a damn about Agnew, but if you want some money, Frank we’ll give it to you.”
