Fake News Busting Site Snopes Crowdfunding For Survival

The popular myth- and fake news-busting website Snopes is now crowdfunding in order to, apparently, fend off a hostile takeover by its web host.

The GoFundMe page says that “vendor will not acknowledge the change in contractual status and continues to essentially hold the Snopes dot com web site hostage.”

The host, Proper Media, claims that it bought one half of Snopes from the 50% owner, the wife of the other 50% owner, who are now in the process of getting divorced.

Snopes says that the host has cut off all revenue flows and needs the funds for legal fees in order to free the website.

The internet community has come to use Snopes to debunk a lot of crap that appears online. In this era of political interference and hacking, it would be a shame to lose an honest voice in the wilderness.
