Yes, Virginia, Crowdfunding Is For Real

Kickstarter announced that it has, since its creation 6 years, 9 months ago, funded 100,000 projects by 86,101 creators from 9,088,422 donors.

They don’t disclose the dollars raised, so it’s not possible to determine how much this private company has made charging creators 5% of revenues.

However, the page does provide certain interesting crowdfunding minutiae, including that there have been:

  • 4 projects now at MOMA,
  • 4 Grammy winners, and
  • 11 Oscar nominees.
