Listen to the Birdie

How can you make money in the stock market?

Turn in a cheater.

The SEC’s Office of the Whistleblower has received over 3,620 whistleblower tips, a more than 20% increase in the number of whistleblower tips in just two years.

Of that number, nine received rewards in fiscal 2014, one receiving than $30 million.

Who are these folks? The SEC says that over 40% were current or former company employees and an additional 20% of the award recipients were contractors or consultants. Of the ones who were company employees, over 80% raised their concerns internally to their supervisors or compliance personnel before reporting their information of wrongdoing to the Commission.
