Biggest Crowdfunded Movie Gets Release Date

The biggest crowdfunded (studio) movie to date, “Veronica Mars,” is set to be released by Warner Bros on March 14, 2014, a year and a day after its Kickstarter campaign that raised over $5.7 million commenced.

The IndieWire article says that “Veronica Mars” will likely get a fairly large theatrical release followed by VOD and digital sell through.

Kickstarter supporters will get their digital copy of the movie “within a few days of the movie’s theatrical debut.” But that may limit how many theaters in which the film will be exhibited as the large theater chains have rejected what’s called “day and date” releasing strategies. So, you may have to search out your small local theater chain or arthouse theater to see it on the big screen.
