Is Crowd Funding Legit Yet?

Kickstarter announced Tuesday that it passed a major milestone: More than 100,000 projects have been launched on the crowdfunding service. Just under 44% of those projects have been successfully funded, raising a total of $535 million. The vast majority of launched projects are categorized under Film & Video (26,343) with $116 million raised and a 40% success rate. Mashable continues by saying that the rate of funding has increased with pledges tripling in 2012 from the previous year. “If this trend continues, Kickstarter could raise its first $1 billion year in 2013.”
