Crowd Funding For Film Stats

Crowd funding for film appears to be here to stay. Kickstarter announced these film and video statistics for the period April 28, 2009 — January 1, 2012:

  • Total pledged: $102.7 million;
  • Total collected: $85.7 million;
  • Total backers: 891,979 and
  • Funded projects: 8,567.

Of that:

  • documentaries captured $42.6million,
  • fictional narratives $31.7m,
  • shorts $16.7m,
  • webseries $6.7m, and
  • animation $4.9million.

86 funded films have had theatrical release and 2 have been nominated for Oscars.
